The behavior should be visible, repeatable, and connected to a consequence the person can actually feel.

The next step is to make the reward honest. A checked box can help, but only if the action matters. A break can help, but only if it does not swallow the rest of the work session. Encouragement can help, but only if it points to something real. Reinforcement should make a routine clearer, not turn it into a trick.

The most durable habits usually gather several kinds of reinforcement at once.
